Severe thunderstorm rips through Calgary

A severe thunderstorm hit the city causing flash flooding, power outages, and Calgary Transit delays Saturday afternoon.

Spokesperson of Enmax Doris Kauffman Woodcock says they received a lot of calls in that short time period.

“We experienced a momentary outage really in the areas of Tuscany, Royal Vista, Royal Oak and Rocky Ridge that was about 3,100 customers that were impacted there but the power came back on fairly quickly.”

Woodcock adds they do their best to prepare when threatening weather approaches.

“Well weather related issues, we always keep an eye on what the weather forecasts are so we’re prepared with extra crews, extra staffing in our control centre if required, when we know that shower activity is not so bad, lightening obviously could be a bigger issue for us for different reasons and we make sure we have extra staff on hand to deal with anything, should there be extensive outages.” Woodcock said.
