Calgary police respond to second takedown video on social media

Calgary police are responding to another arrest video making the rounds on social media.

The video shows multiple officers taking down 23-year-old Daniel Joseph Maguire, an England native, at the Stampede’s Nashville North tent.

Maguire is facing multiple charges, including resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.

In a statement, police say officers were called to the tent after reports that a “belligerent and heavily intoxicated” Maguire was stealing other peoples’ drinks and refusing to leave.

According to CPS, as officers were escorting Maguire out of the tent, he pulled away and grabbed one of the officer’s duty belts and the handle of a taser on the belt.

This led to several officers wrestling with Maguire to get him under control.

Police say all incidents using force are reviewed by a district training officer and the force review officer. They are also tracked and reported to the Calgary Police Commission.

Anyone concerned about an interaction they’ve had with police is asked to contact the Professional Standards Section, or the Calgary Police Commission.
