Why France is bearing the brunt of terror attacks in Europe

In the aftermath of the explosion in Nice, France, we are now left trying to find answers.

France is bearing the brunt of attacks in Western Europe, and a terror expert is explaining why.

“France is, in effect, a war. A war of terror,” says SFU’s Andre Gerolymatos, a member of the Canadian Advisory Council on National Security.

He says a few factors have lead to the violence in France.

“France has never been able to integrate its very numerous, close to five million people, who are Muslim. A lot of them live in very poor conditions, poverty conditions. This breeds a lot of desperation,” adds Gerolymatos, who says these are the people that ISIS can prey on.

He notes refugees have had nothing to do with any of the French attacks.

“This has to do with a bunch of thugs called ISIS who are appealing a certain kind of individual in the Middle East, and it spills over into individuals outside the region.”
