The SW bus rapid transit project was front and centre during a committee meeting at city hall Wednesday.
The bus route to go down 14th Street has been a contentious issue for months with vocal opposition from the “Ready To Engage” group, but now a new group in favour of the plan has also formed.
Transportation Committee Chair Shane Keating says at the end of the hearing they will likely vote to delay the project.
“The issue is the gas line. It makes absolute sense to postpone a portion of this until after the pipeline is done. The last thing you’d want to do is put in processes and make the road, do all the changes and then in two years, a year and a half, have ATCO come along and dig it up. So, that makes perfect sense. Let’s delay it,” said Keating.
Rohit Sharma spoke against the plan and isn’t happy that it seems some councillors have already made up their mind.
“Anybody who has even half a brain can see that there will be two councillors who will be voting for this project,” said Sharma. “They’ve taken their positions, they’re not listening to arguments.”
A total of 74 speakers were scheduled to speak about the project.
