Calgary’s Mayor is on a summer break and when he returns, he’ll find he has some new digs at Municipal Plaza.
Naheed Nenshi tweeted out early Friday: “I’m sad to announce that today is my last day in this office. I’ll miss this place.”
Work is beginning on the facade of Old City Hall, mainly the crumbling sandstone that has been an issue for a few years now.
Several pieces of it have chipped away or fallen to the ground, forcing crews to put up scaffolding along the side of the building.
Crews are using the summer break to get started on the much needed work to save the old landmark.
When the Mayor and Council return they’ll find new, temporary offices on the Administration side of the building.
It’s unclear how long they’ll be temporarily relocated.
