Calgary police show off new command vehicle

The Calgary police have a brand new mobile command vehicle for emergency situations.

The $900 thousand behemoth purchased through the flood resiliency program was deemed a critical need after the 2013 disaster.

The vehicle can also be deployed at large community gatherings and events and other high-risk and search and rescue situations.

Acting deputy Ray Robitaille says the vehicle is state of the art.

“We can access all of our IT systems, our information remotely from anywhere in Calgary and even if the network goes down, we have satellite backup,” Robitaille explained. “So, what you have are the people who are commanding a scene, whether it’s response to an emergency, such as the flood, terrorist event, we’ll be able to have all the information that they need.”

Its outer frame can also be replaced, extending its life span.

The MCV will join the CPS fleet this week.
