Couples urged to talk finances before exchanging “I do’s”:

Ahead of the busy August wedding season, CIBC has released the results of a recent on-line survey about the importance of couples having conversations about finances before tying the knot or moving in with one another.
According to the survey conducted by Angus Reid Forum, while 99 per cent stated it’s important to talk about financial issues as a couple, only about 35 per cent actually have those conversations.
Jamie Golombek, who is the Managing Director, Tax and Estate Planning, Wealth Strategies Group, CIBC said. “It’s amazing couples would rather talk sex or politics than finances.
When you’re caught up in the bliss of getting married, talking about money isn’t particularly romantic, but, it shouldn’t be a taboo topic.”
Golombek recommends those who don’t like to talk about money should bring a financial planner into the mix.
Statistics show financial issues are the biggest cause of stress in relationships.
