Brooks dealing with caterpillar infestation

An invasive bug that has been known to be a problem for several cities across Canada is popping up now in Brooks.
Parks Supervisor Phil Lunn says the tent caterpillar has been spotted in a small section of the city, located 190 kilometres southeast of Calgary.
He’s worried it could quickly multiply. They’ve been known to defoliate trees, allowing other insects and diseases to invade the tree.
“But the thing is, they defoliate two or three a year. They can kill a tree and then they can spread,” says Lunn adding, “so the best thing is to get them now.”
Lunn says he personally doesn’t like using insecticides. His best advice: clip the branch and remove it and the bugs from the main body of the tree.
