Possible tornado spotted in Central Alberta

Environment Canada is looking into reports of a tornado up near Edson, west of Edmonton.

Meteorologist Dave Carlsen says it happened just after 9 p.m., Sunday.

“It’s very likely that there was a tornado, but we will likely determine that for sure throughout the day (Monday),” he said.

Environment Canada believes the storm passed over a rural area, so it likely didn’t do much damage.

Carlsen says the weather system was a bit of an anomaly as it’s getting late in the year for such an extreme storm, but he points out it’s been a bit of a strange summer as a whole on the weather front in Alberta.
