A colourful display at Calgary’s McDougall Centre arrived just in time for Pride festivities.
The Pride flag was raised Friday afternoon, for the first time at the facility.
Culture and Tourism Minister Ricardo Miranda was on hand for the ceremony. He said he’s “very proud to be part of a government with three openly gay MLAs and a Cabinet Minister that has taken historic steps to create a more inclusive and welcoming province.”
Miranda will be among the thousands walking in Sunday’s Pride Parade. Premier Rachel Notley will also take part as well as a representative from the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation.
While Flames President, Brian Burke is unable to attend, Matt Stajan, Troy Brouwer, and Chad Johnson will. Hitmen Matteo Gennaro, Taylor Sanheim, Jakob Stukel, and Micheal Zipp will also be joined by Roughnecks players Scott Carnegie and Dane Dobbie.
A rainbow crosswalk is now on display at Centre Street and Stephen Avenue for Calgary Pride.
