Fuel for School program developing students’ adventurous appetites

As another school year kicks off, so does the need for food programs to feed hungry kids.

Tenille Cooper with the Calgary Board of Education says Fuel for School is a breakfast program that ensures a nutritious start to the day, and exposes students to new and nutritious food they might not have tried before.

“Whether it be putting kale or spinach in a smoothie or trying a different recipe, something that they might not have been exposed to at home,” Copper said. “We obviously received feedback, both from the parents and the students, on how children are becoming more adventurous in terms of the type of food that they’re eating.”

Cooper adds, the program is run on donations so it’s only offered in 20 elementary schools; however, parents can contact their child’s institution to find out what other options available.
