An addiction treatment program provider that’s been helping men for 40 years is expanding to offer addiction recovery services to women.
Recovery Acres held its grand opening on Tuesday in southwest Calgary.
Janine Copeland is the Director of the CARE for Women Program at Recovery Acres. She says gender specific treatments are more conducive to recovery with a track record of better outcomes, adding this new program bridges a gap in the availability and quality of womens’ treatment programs in the city.
“Sometimes women are waiting six to eight months to get into residential treatment programs here in Calgary, that’s just too long. Sometimes when people have to wait that long, they’ll wander off and go back into their addictive process.”
This new facility has the capacity to treat nearly 400 women per year.
