After just one day of public schools resuming classes, parents are sounding the alarm over bus stops.
Residents in northeast Monterey Park say they need to drive their kids to the bus stop, after a route which used to have three pick-up spots, was reduced to just one group stop at the north end of the community.
Pasha Safari tells City News, she drives her sister’s kids to the stop because her sister doesn’t have a licence.
“Right now, the weather’s not bad, but what are we going to do in winter when it’s freezing, you know, and minus 30? These kids can’t walk by themselves to the bus stop,” she said.
Another man says his kids walk at least half a kilometre to the stop where 61 kids are picked up.
He says his kids had a much shorter walk in years past when the bus made more frequent stops, but he understands the school board needed to find ways to save money.
