YMCA Remington Recreation Centre opens to the public

A southeast neighbourhood that’s been lacking a place to play is finally getting some recreation space.
The City of Calgary celebrated the grand opening of the 94,000 square foot Remington YMCA in Quarry Park Saturday.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi says it’s one of a few projects that were on hold when he took office.
“It’s not like these are brand new communities, people have been living here for a long time without the facilities that they really need in order to live a great life in the city and I’m thrilled that we’re able to do that,” Nenshi said.
Nenshi adds he never had any doubt this day would come.
“I never thought it wasn’t going to happen because I was going to make it happen, and councillor Keaton was going to make it happen and the volunteers in the southeast community rec society were going to make it happen, but I also had to show that we were going to make it happen without going into the property tax space.”
The building is part of the city’s $480 million investment into recreation facilities for underserved areas of Calgary.
