The Town of Okotoks is proceeding with its next phase of eradicating invasive goldfish in its storm drains.
The concern is the fish could somehow manage to make its way into the river and threaten native fish and species.
Parks Manager Christa Michailuk says they’ve pulled some fish out that are roughly a foot in length, weighing 800 grams.
“We have people that go out and about and they’ll dispense the Rotenone, is the product that’s used, around the shoreline of the pond and then they do an injection under the water surface out in the deeper parts of the pond.”
They’re once again reminding people to avoid disposing of any live or dead domestic fish in the local storm ponds.
