Calgarians crowded in front of Veterans Affairs Minister Kent Hehr’s office to protest Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to abandon electoral reform.
Kirsten Ibsen was one of over 50 people who came out with sign in hand to voice their disappointment…
“I really wanted something different from him and I’m just I’m dissapointed, and I think this is the only way and I’ll fight this as much as I can. We voted Harper out, we can vote out Trudeau too,” said Ibsen.
Organizer Matt Hammer says, fear that far leaning parties will be given a voice under a new system are unfounded.
“We only have to look to the states to see how a first past the post system can produce extreme results. When you have a first past the post system where extreme voices can capture massive levers of power in large parties and then attain majority governments without majority support, that’s how you get extreme parties.”
Sarah Marshall says this isn’t the only party promise where the Liberals have fell short.
“Personally, I was expecting electoral reform and fixing the water crisis up north. Those were the two things that I was hoping that he’d get done.”
Calgary’s protests joins over 20 rallies held across the country.
