2017 Golf Season described as “strange”

By

The Executive Professional at Silverwing Links and Boulder Creek says there has been lots of openings on the tee-sheet.

David Robinson suggests golf has been one of the discretionary spending items that has yet to bounce back from the recession.

“Most golf courses were bracing for a slow down,” Robinson said, “especially after so many companies in the Calgary region laid off workers during the recession when oil prices tanked back in 2014.”

On a positive note, Robinson added, “people are enjoying some of the lowest prices for golf in the past five to ten years.”

Robinson, who works for the Windmill Golf Group, doesn’t think there are too many golf courses in the Calgary area, pointing to the fact that construction of the Mickleson National Golf Club, west of the city, is well underway.

He and many other golf operators are hoping mother nature will co-operate by providing good golfing weather well into the fall.
