Man returns trash found on his rural property at Calgary home, fined for illegal dumping

CALGARY (CityNews) – A special delivery from a man who says he’s returning trash to Calgarians who are dumping their junk on him.
Andrew Thomas posted a video to Facebook on Tuesday, but now he’s the one facing a fine for illegal dumping.
“Calgary City police said they weren’t going to do anything about it, said it was a bylaw matter so I contacted bylaw but, in the end, said they couldn’t do anything about it.”
Thomas lives just minutes away from the southeast edge of the city and said the latest pile of trash dumped on his property had household garbage, gardening material and documents he used to trace all the junk to its home.
Filling up the pick up with trash wasn’t the original plan. Thomas said he knocked on the door to confront the woman living at the home who didn’t want to help resolve the situation.
“Her demeanour and attitude changed instantly and she wanted nothing to do with me.”
Illegal dumping is a constant issue in Rocky View County. Earlier this month, the Lantz family gave CityNews a birdseye view of the problem.

It’s not just a pain to clean up and pay to put it in the landfill, the garbage is delaying crops.
City Waste and Recycling Services told CityNews back then, the county residents could provide evidence to their own Bylaw Services which will work the with the city to find Calgarians.
Thomas said Calgary police are investigating the woman for illegal dumping, and he submitted information to Bylaw Services that shows he was just returning property.
He plans to fight his ticket in court but won’t hesitate to return to sender again.
“It wasn’t until I made a big stink about it and got Facebook famous over 24 hours. If that’s what it’s going to take, I’ll do it 10 times over.”
CityNews reached out to Rocky View County and are awaiting a response.
