Cenovus to start widespread layoffs this week

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A Calgary energy company is expected to begin widespread layoffs Tuesday.

Cenovus Energy, which finalized a deal to buy Husky Energy earlier this month announced 2,100 jobs would be lost as a result of the mega-merger.

The layoffs account for roughly one-quarter of its workforce.

Many of the affected workers are expected to get their termination notice by phone call as they work from home.

The layoffs are anticipated over two phases with more to come in February or March.
