AHS vaccine mandate widely accepted by members

Alberta Health Services (AHS) President and CEO Dr. Verna Yiu says 92 per cent of AHS workers have provided proof of vaccination, taking it as proof the vaccine mandate for health-care workers is effective.

In Tuesday’s COVID-19 update Yiu said AHS should be able to care for everyone without any impact on healthcare service so long as the trend of lower COVID numbers continues.

“Only a small minority are seeking accommodation under the immunization policy,” Yiu said. “We have received about 1,200 requests for accommodation on medical or religious grounds.”

She also said about 830 of those requests submitted the required paperwork to allow for a full evaluation.

AHS says it has about 108,600 employees, excluding those contracted through service providers like Covenant Health, meaning roughly 7,500 employees did not show proof of vaccination or request accommodation.
