Alberta secures land for Springbank reservoir

The Alberta government says it secured the land necessary to start construction on the Springbank off-stream reservoir by next year.

The UCP says it has reached agreements with landowners in the area, which was the last hurdle to clear before the flood mitigation project could go ahead.

The reservoir got approval from regulators earlier this year on the grounds of public interest.

The plan is to divert water from the Elbow River to avoid flooding similar to the devastating ones of 2013.

The reservoir should be operational by 2024.
