Alberta RCMP arrest man after police uniform, cruiser stolen

RCMP say a man is in custody after a police uniform and equipment were stolen from a cruiser in northern Alberta.
Police in Grand Prairie say officers spotted a man and woman in a stolen car just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

They say the vehicle veered off the road while trying to flee and officers were able to arrest the woman but the man ran to an unlocked police cruiser and drove off.
The cruiser was recovered by police, but significant parts of a uniform and weapons were stolen. Some of the stolen items included an officer’s patrol jacket, toque, handcuffs and body armour.
An RCMP jacket and hard body armour have also now been recovered, but an impact weapon that shoots low-velocity sponge rounds is still missing.
Mounties say the weapon is not lethal, but can cause serious harm should it be used near someone.
They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Police did not say whether the 31-year-old man in custody has been charged.
