Banff, Jasper under winter storm warning

A winter storm warning has been issued for Banff and Jasper national parks, with more than a foot of snow expected to fall in both areas.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued the warnings Thursday morning.

Highway 93 from Jasper, to Saskatchewan River Crossing, to Lake Louise and sections of the Icefields Parkway will see significant snowfall and “hazardous winter conditions.”

More than 40 centimetres of snow is expected by Friday evening.

“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve,” the weather agency said.

As snow piles up, it can be difficult to drive in some areas, while heavy snowfall can reduce visibility at times.
