Calgary under heat warning, severe thunderstorm watch for Stampede day 4: ECCC

If you’re headed down to the Stampede grounds Monday, you might want to pack a hat, some sunscreen, and a lot of water.
A heat warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) remains for Calgary Monday, with temperatures expected to climb to the high 20s.
ECCC says the mercury should peak around 27 C, cooling off to just 14 C in the evening.
Temperatures are expected to moderate on Tuesday, it added.
Residents and visitors to the city should consider rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day, taking frequent breaks from the heat, spending time in indoor, cooled spaces when possible, drinking lots of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated and checking for kids and pets before exiting their vehicle.
Individuals should also monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, including high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting and unconsciousness.
Those with pre-existing health conditions, infants, children, seniors, outdoor workers and individuals who are socially isolated are at higher risk for heat-related illness, according to the ECCC.

ECCC added another weather alert to the list later Monday — a severe thunderstorm watch.
The agency says conditions are favourable for developing severe thunderstorms that may produce strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain.
Storms are expected to develop early this afternoon and continue into the evening hours, the ECCC added.
Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles, according to Environment Canada. Severe thunderstorms can also produce tornadoes, while heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
