Calgary man seriously injured after driving into SW business

Calgary police are investigating after a vehicle drove into a business in the southwest Wednesday.

Around 10:20 a.m., officers were called to Ridley’s Cycle in the Westhills Towne Centre on Stewart Green SW, for reports of a single vehicle collision.

Investigators say a 53-year-old man was travelling into the parking lot from Stewart Green SW in a Dodge Durango. The vehicle continued through the parking lot, passing in front of Urban Barn and Mastermind Toys.

According to police, the vehicle then failed to make a turn at the intersection and drove into the corner of Ridley’s Cycle.

The impact caused significant damaged to the building and the vehicle, they add,

The driver was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Police say excessive speed is considered to be a factor in the incident. Alcohol and drugs aren’t considered factors.
