By CityNews Staff

Calgarians will be ringing in the Lunar New Year on Saturday with events happening around the city.

The Bright Lights Winterfest-Lunar New Year fireworks event will usher in the year of the dragon with indoor and outdoor performances, including a lantern festival.

That kicks off at 4:30 and runs until 7:30 tonight at the Westgate Community Association Hall, which will have a lantern festival and several performances both indoors and outdoors. It will also have horse wagon rides, crafts, and fireworks.

The event is a partnership between the Northwestern China Cultural Association of Alberta and the Calgary Korean Women’s Association.

The Chinese Cultural Centre will also have some New Year festivities on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A dragon and lion dance will be held on the street near the cultural centre at 1 p.m.

There will be several performances from dance schools, academies, and associations from the community.
