Temperature in Calgary could drop 15 to 20°C in one hour: Environment Canada

Calgarians are being advised to prepare for a rapid drop in temperature Thursday afternoon.

An alert issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) around 10:40 a.m., says a cold front coming from the north will bring a “sudden drop” in temperatures by the afternoon.

The ECCC says temperatures could drop 15 to 20°C in less than an hour.

Those heading outside Thursday should be prepared, it adds.

Drivers should also be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions. It says wet areas from recent snowmelt will freeze, leading to slippery conditions.

Snow is expected to begin this afternoon with the possibility of rain.

Sub-zero temperatures and snow are expected to continue throughout the weekend.
