Youth dies on Stoney Trail after being ejected from vehicle: police

By CityNews Staff

Calgary police say a youth died after being ejected from a car in a single-vehicle rollover on Stoney Trail Saturday afternoon.

S. Sgt. John Guigon tells CityNews the vehicle was southbound on Stoney Trail near Mcknight after 4 p.m. when the driver lost control and ended up in the northbound lanes.

The youth, a 15-year-old boy, was thrown from a silver Infiniti G37 and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Guigon says five youths in total were ejected from the vehicle. Two of them were taken to hospital in life-threatening condition and two sustained relatively minor injuries.

Police upgraded the conditions of the four Sunday, saying that the driver was taken to hospital in serious condition, while the remaining three were taken with minor injuries.

The crash happened along a straight stretch of road.

Investigators are looking at excessive speed as a factor.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
