A woman in her 20s has died after an attack on a northeast Calgary pathway early Monday morning.

Calgary police say just before 4 a.m., a passerby found a woman believed to be in medical distress on the Nose Creek Pathway on 32 Avenue NE.

She was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition where she later died.

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Calgary resident Jelisa Maschki.

Evidence has led police to believe the victim was assaulted, and given the severity of her injuries, the Homicide Unit is investigating.

Investigators are now looking to talk to anyone who has information, or who was in contact with Maschki in the hours or days before her death. Investigators are specifically looking to talk to anyone who had contact with her on the night of Dec. 8 or morning of Dec. 9.

“We still have many questions surrounding Jelisa’s activity leading up to her discovery,” says Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson. “We are hoping to gain answers following the autopsy, which may shed some light on the injuries she sustained and what caused her death.”

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Anyone who believes they saw any suspicious activity along the Nose Creek Pathway in the early morning hours of Monday, or who was in recent contact with the victim is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
