1 stabbed in large downtown Calgary brawl

A large “scrum style fight” broke out on Stephen Avenue in downtown Calgary early Sunday, with one person being stabbed and others injured.

Calgary police say a large physical altercation happened on 8 Avenue between 1 Street and 2 Street SW around 2:15 a.m.

They added that it was happening as bars and nightclubs were emptying for the night.

Staff Sgt. Mike Sushelnitsky tells 660 NewsRadio that multiple people were involved, and at least three men were injured, with one being rushed to hospital.

Initially, that person was sent in serious, critical condition, but he has since been upgraded to stable condition. Police later said that all three are in stable condition.

Upon arrival, other individuals involved had fled, while some witnesses remained. No arrests have been made.

An investigation is underway.
