Driver turns themself in after hit-and-run crash leaves woman in 70s dead

Calgary police have arrested a driver believed to be responsible for a hit-and-run in the city’s southeast Thursday that left a woman in her 70s dead.
Calgary police say it happened around 7:40 a.m. on Riverbend Drive SE in the community of Riverbend.
Police say the woman was crossing the road near Riverbirch Crescent when she was hit by a grey 2018 Ford F150 driven by a man in his 20s.
The truck fled the scene following the incident. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the driver returned around 10:50 a.m. and identified himself as the suspect. He was taken into custody and the vehicle was found in the southwest community of Canyon Meadows.
No information has been provided regarding possible charges.
Area roads were closed for a period of time to allow for clean up and investigation.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police say speed and impairment are not believed to be factors in the crash.
