By CityNews Staff

A northeast Calgary high school was evacuated Thursday after bear spray was discharged.

Calgary police say it happened just after noon at Nelson Mandela High School on Saddletowne Circle NE.

Officers were dispatched following reports of an assault with a weapon.

Investigators don’t know at this time if the incident was targeted.

A potential victim has been identified, but wasn’t injured.

Police say the school was cleared out of an abundance of caution but students were back in class by 1:20 p.m.

No one has been taken into custody.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
