A man is dead following a shooting in the early morning hours in a southeast Calgary neighbourhood.
Investigators were called to the area of 69 Avenue and 20 Street SE around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday for reports of gunfire.
When they arrived, officers found a man’s body outside of his vehicle. A short time later, a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting was found abandoned.
One person has been arrested.
Due to its proximity to the scene, police advised the closure of Almadina Charter Language Academy, an elementary school at 1919 76 Avenue, for the day.
The school reopened just after 10 a.m.
Traffic in the area of the incident was impacted this morning due to scene processing, but has since returned to normal flow.
A short time after the first arrest, police got a call about a suspicious person from a resident in the community of Palliser.
Two more individuals were then arrested. However, their involvement in the shooting hasn’t been confirmed.
Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, but haven’t figured out a motive yet as the investigation is in its early stages.
An autopsy on the victim is scheduled for Thursday.
