18-year-old faces charges in targeted attack near SW Calgary high school: police

Calgary Police have charged an 18-year-old man following a Friday afternoon attack on a 16-year-old.

An 18-year-old is facing charges after a teen was stabbed in a targeted attack at a bus stop near a Calgary high school Friday, police say.

Officers say it happened while a 16-year old boy was on a parked bus in the area of Henry Wise Wood High School, near Elbow Drive and 75 Avenue SW.

Emergency crews were called for reports of an assault with a weapon just after 2 p.m.

Police say a teenager was stabbed on a transit bus at a bus stop across the street from the school. Images from the scene show a city bus surrounded by police tape.

They add the suspect fled the scene but was found and arrested two hours later. The teen remains in hospital in stable condition.

As a result, 18-year-old Brayden Caillou faces three charges, which are aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police believe the incident was targeted due to a dispute between the two, who they say were known to each other.

At the time, police could not confirm if they were students at Henry Wise Wood.

Henry Wise Wood was temporarily in lockdown following the incident. The Calgary Board of Education tells CityNews the lockdown was lifted before 3 p.m. after officers went into the school to ensure the suspect was not inside.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
