A two-year-old has died after being struck by a vehicle while in a stroller in the city’s southwest Sunday, Calgary police say.
They say it happened at around 4:30 p.m. when two parents were pushing a toddler in a stroller through a marked crosswalk at the Hull Avenue and Horton Road SW intersection.
Then, a Jeep Cherokee going westbound turned south into the intersection, striking the stroller.
Officers say the toddler was rushed to hospital, but died there at around 6 p.m.
No other injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, police say the driver of the Jeep, a man in his 40s, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Anthony Salazar, a resident in the area who was out walking with his partner and toddler, saw the aftermath and shares his family’s concerns.
“We walk little Mya here every other day, and it’s a little concerning for us,” he told CityNews.
“People are speeding down the road, we’re coming down this road, and police over here, we actually seen the stretcher. We didn’t physically see nobody in the stretcher, but you know it’s just sad that a little one’s life is lost.”
Impairment or speed aren’t considered factors. CPS acting inspector Mike Anderson says the investigation is ongoing and charges haven’t been laid.
“Our investigators are going to be looking at environmental concerns,” he told reporters. “State of the crosswalk. Talking to witnesses. When the parents are ready to talk to us, we’ll be talking to them about what happened. Talk to the driver as well.”
He says this is the city’s seventh traffic-related death of 2026.
“It’s an absolute tragedy,” Anderson said.
“There’s two parents who lost their two-year-old child today, and I think, as a city, that’s shocking and disappointing.”
Having a toddler, this one hits home for Salazar and his family.
“I got crushed because she’s one, so I kinda like, if I’m pushing her on the stroller that day, it would be devastating for me,” he said.
