A Calgary family is still shaken after an early‑morning crash earlier this month that narrowly missed a father and his two young children as they stepped out their front door.

A doorbell camera captured the moment a black car sped through the intersection of Magnolia Heath and Magnolia Passage SE in the southeast community of Mahogany.

The car collided with another vehicle, careening onto the family’s front lawn just feet from where the children had been standing moments earlier.

Katie McKay, whose kids were nearly struck, said the what‑ifs have been difficult to process.

“I imagine I could’ve been in the hospital that night, visiting a family member or worse,” she said. “It could’ve been really bad. I think everything went exactly as it was supposed to for my family to be safe.”

Neighbour Nicole Heisler witnessed the crash from the window of her home.

“I screamed, and I didn’t know if he had been hit or not,” she said. “I just ran out the door without shoes and came out to see what had happened.”

Calgary police say one of the vehicles failed to stop at a stop sign before the collision. Both drivers suffered minor injuries, and one was issued a summons for failing to stop.

Residents say the crash highlights long‑standing concerns about speeding and poor visibility at the intersection. McKay believes a four‑way stop could make a meaningful difference.

“I know it probably would’ve helped us on that day if we had it,” she said.

Heisler agrees, noting that neighbours have repeatedly submitted requests for speed bumps or additional traffic controls.

Ward 12 Coun. Mike Jamieson says the incident has now reached his office.

“This one is new to our radar,” he said. “We will be following up and looking into the recommendation of a four‑way stop. To me, that seems like a very pragmatic solution.”
