Two men face nearly 100 mailbox break-in charges in NE Skyview Ranch: Calgary police

Two men have been charged after breaking into multiple mailboxes in Calgary's NE.

Two men are facing nearly 100 charges following a series of mailbox break-ins affecting 35 homes in the northeast community of Skyview Ranch, Calgary police say.

Officers say reports of mailbox break-ins came in on April 21 in the area of Skyview Point Heath and Skyview Point Green NE at around 2:30 a.m.

HAWCS was deployed, leading police to find and stop the suspect’s vehicle.

A large amount of mail was found — believed to be stolen from the mailboxes — and tools, prompting police to arrest the two men inside.

Stolen items included cheques, credit cards, and identification documents.

A total of 98 counts are being laid on 35-year-old Chestermere man Kulwinder Singh and 27-year-old Calgary man Jagroop Singh. They face 38 counts of theft of mail, along with at least two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000; and one count each of mischief under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, and possession of a stolen credit card. They are expected to appear in court on April 30 and May 1, respectively.

The Calgarian faces 10 more charges, including possession of identity documents and a controlled substance, and disguise with intent.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
