Handguns seized, arrest made after police bust in Calgary NE: ALERT

By CityNews Staff

An arrest has been made after a weapons bust in northeast Calgary involved a stolen firearm from Manitoba, Alberta’s enforcement agency said.

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) says the seizure happened on April 16 after searching a vehicle and two homes in the city’s northeast.

Two handguns, magazines, ammunition, and shell casings were found inside. One of the handguns was reportedly stolen from Manitoba. Calgary police are analyzing the weapons and munitions to see if they’re connected to other crimes.

ALERT says 19-year-old Ikjot Sidhu was arrested on scene. He now faces eight charges, including possession of a restricted firearm, a prohibited device, a firearm with ammunition, and a firearm obtained by crime.

He was released from custody and is expected to appear in court on May 29.

ALERT says Sidhu was arrested as part of an organized crime investigation based on information received regarding firearms activity.
