Boarded up garage scene of fire in Calgary’s Lower Mount Royal

The Calgary Fire Department is investigating after a garage caught on fire in the city’s Lower Mount Royal neighbourhood.
Investigators say the blaze was reported just after 12:45 a.m. Thursday on 13 Street SW near Bagot Avenue SW.
Battalion Chief Bruce Barrs tells 660 NewsRadio that crews found the detached garage fully involved when they arrived.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly with hose lines and then searched the garage and the adjacent home for people.
No one was found inside either building.
“One thing that did present a bit of a challenge for our crews were hoarding conditions found in both structures,” Barr said. “I should note that both were boarded up and appeared at least initially to us that there were no residents at scene, which was confirmed.”
He adds that it is still too early to determine the cause of the fire.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
