A Cochrane man had his tires stolen early Thursday morning and got them back just hours later.

Bryce Hardy says he woke up around 6:50 a.m. and walked outside to find his vehicle sitting on blocks with the tires missing.

Unable to get to work, he contacted RCMP to report the theft and figure out next steps.

As he was preparing for an interview later in the day, Cochrane RCMP arrived with the stolen tires in the back of a police vehicle. Officers told him they had recovered them from the person believed to have taken them.

Hardy said he was relieved and surprised by the quick turnaround, even though he still doesn’t know exactly what happened.

“We got our tires back and pretty stoked about that,” he said.

The incident has raised questions about neighbourhood security, but for now, Hardy has a simple message for the community.

“Don’t steal tires,” he said.
