Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a vehicle tied to an attempted extortion in northeast Calgary.
Investigators say a South Asian resident in the community of Saddle Ridge reported receiving threatening messages on May 10 from an unknown individual demanding money.
The suspect allegedly sent a video of a shooting at an unrelated business as an intimidation tactic, and while the victim was speaking with investigators, another message arrived that showed video of the victim’s own home.
Police launched an investigation and put safety measures in place for the victim and their family.
After reviewing security footage from the area, investigators identified a vehicle believed to be involved but have not yet located it or the driver.
The vehicle is described as a blue 2005–2006 Hyundai Santa Fe with tinted side windows, rust on the rear driver’s‑side wheel well, and red tape on the driver’s‑side taillight.
Calgary police have been involved in a long-running investigating into an extortion series targeting the city’s South Asian community.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403‑266‑1234 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
