River safety advisory lifted for Bow, Elbow rivers in Calgary

The River Safety Advisory on the Bow and Elbow rivers in Calgary has been lifted by the city’s fire department.

A river safety advisory has been lifted for the Bow and Elbow Rivers in Calgary.

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) says people can resume normal river activities but should stay cautious, as conditions can change quickly during storms.

CFD issued the warning on June 29 after consecutive days of rainfall pushed water levels well above safe levels.

The fire department says conditions are improving, though the water remains cold and some debris and reduced visibility may persist.

The Aquatic Rescue Team will continue monitoring the waterways.

People are reminded to supervise children closely, choose appropriate watercraft, avoid tying vessels together or using ankle leashes, and ensure everyone wears a properly fitted lifejacket.
