Misinformation concern raised about missing Calgary boy

As the search continues for 11-year-old Parker Wells, police are advising caution about AI generated content about the case.
Calgary police say inaccurate content is spreading online, including unverified images, videos and claims about sightings of Parker and his whereabouts.
“Obviously it’s a massive waste of time. And it takes away the resources that we need to find Parker and bring him home,” Calgary police Acting Staff Sgt. Scott Guterson told a news conference Monday.
Some social media posts falsely claim that Parker had been found dead, and Guterson agrees it’s a concern that some Calgarians may mistakenly decide to stop looking for the child as a result.
“At this time, we ask the public to exercise caution when viewing or sharing this content,“ police said in a statement about the AI-generated, altered and unverified images and videos.
Police add that all appropriate images or updates will be shared directly through their official channels, and they’re asking the public to report and not share any altered images, AI-generated content, or unconfirmed reports about Parker.
