Suspected drug haul discovered in truck at Alberta-U.S. border

Border officials at a southern Alberta crossing seized a large amount of suspected drugs from a truck arriving from the U.S. earlier this month.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says officers at the Coutts border crossing made the discovery after inspecting a commercial truck that had travelled from California on July 2.
The truck’s shipment was declared as bath tissue, but officers noticed something unusual during the inspection.
During a search they found around 300 kilograms of suspected methampthetamine and 80 kilograms of suspected cocaine. The suspected drugs were hidden inside 12 moving boxes, a smaller box, and a duffle bag.
Officers arrested the driver at the scene who is now in RCMP custody. The seized drugs were also handed over to the Mounties.
The truck was heading for the village of Vilna, about 150 kilometres northeast of Edmonton, according to the CBSA.
