Guns, swords, Freddy Krueger-style claws among weapons found during Lethbridge drug bust

A Lethbridge drug trafficking investigation led to the seizure of a huge collections of weapons including guns, knives, swords, nunchucks, and even claw-style weapons resembling a fictional horror character.
The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) says the weapons were found while officers searched a home near 7 Avenue N and 20 Street N on July 15.
The search led to the arrest of two people and followed an investigation into suspected drug trafficking that began in June.
In total, officers seized 32 guns and replica guns, 4,700 rounds of ammunition, 12 prohibited weapons, around 170 knives and edged weapons, and two body armour vests.
The guns seized included 19 rifles, three shotguns and a pistol, along with nine replica firearms. Police said none of the guns were legally owned and investigators are working with the RCMP to find out where they came from. One gun has already been traced to a theft in Brooks.
Police also found an array of weapons that investigators believe may have been acquired through the drug trade. The collection included switchblades, swords, brass knuckles, collapsible batons, nunchucks and clawed gloves resembling Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street horror film franchise.
ALERT is describing the seizure as one of the largest weapons hauls in the agency’s history.
“The drug trade is inherently violent and unpredictable,” said ALERT Staff Sgt. Trevor Sheppard in a statement. “A huge weapons cache such as this demonstrates an unwelcome danger to our community.”
Officers also seized an estimated $20,000 worth of drugs and contraband products from the home. The items included 53 grams of cocaine, 41 grams of methamphetamine, 538 fentanyl and oxycodone pills, 113 tabs of LSD and 20 cartons of contraband tobacco.
Police also recovered $13,649 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime.
Louise Sansome, 47, has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, unauthorized possession of body armour, Tobacco Act offences and numerous firearms-related offences. Sansome was already subject to a lifetime firearms prohibition stemming from previous convictions, according to police.
Terry Adamson, 56, has been charged with possession of drugs.
