Some Calgarians without internet, TV after fibre line cut; police investigating

Police are investigating after a fibre-optic line was allegedly cut by vandals in Calgary early Monday morning leaving many residents without a connection.
Calgary police say they were called at about 6:20 a.m. after reports that a cable had been cut in an alley off of Erlton Street SW.
The incident has left some Rogers customers in south Calgary without internet, TV, and home phone service. In a statement to CityNews, Rogers says the interruption began around 3 a.m. after the lines were intentionally cut by thieves.
“We’re seeing a troubling rise in vandalism and attempted theft to our network infrastructure across the country,” reads the statement. “Beyond being a significant inconvenience for our customers, these acts can have a serious impact on public safety.”
“We are working with local police and have six crews on-site working around the clock to repair the extensive damage and restore services for customers as quickly as possible.”
Service is expected to begin returning Monday evening with full restoration by Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.
Police tell CityNews the damage is significant. No suspect information has been made available.
