Pedestrian hurt in NW Calgary hit‑and‑run; driver arrested after second crash

A hit-and-run driver who hurt a pedestrian in NW Calgary was arrested after a second crash shortly after.

Police say the initial crash happened around 7:55 a.m. at the intersection of 64 Avenue and 4 Street NW, where a driver struck a pedestrian and fled.

Witnesses followed the vehicle and alerted police.

The same driver collided with another vehicle on Travois Crescent NW, a short distance away from the original crash. Officers found the second crash scene and took the driver into custody.

During the response, a police cruiser experienced a mechanical failure and briefly caught fire. The officer inside was not hurt.

The investigation into the cause of the crashes is ongoing. Police believe alcohol or drug impairment may have played a role.
