Bear warning issued after multiple sightings in Fish Creek Park

A bear advisory has been issued for a south Calgary park after several sightings.

Alberta Parks has issued a warning for several areas of Fish Creek Provincial Park after multiple sightings of a bear.

The advisory was issued on Friday, and is in place for areas of the park including Bebo Grove, Shannon Terrace, and Votier’s Flats, where a black bear has been reported during peak daylight hours.

Officials warn that bears can appear at any time, even with an advisory in place. Visitors are urged to make noise, travel in groups, and stay alert for bears or signs of bear activity.

Alberta Parks says pets should be kept on a leash, and people are encouraged to carry bear spray and know how to use it. Food, garbage, and other attractants should be secured in hard‑sided vehicles or bear‑proof lockers.

Bear sightings can be reported to Alberta Parks at 403‑591‑7755. More information on bear safety can be found here.
