4 charged, $3M in illegal tobacco seized after RCMP uncover Calgary criminal network

The RCMP’s Integrated Money Laundering Team has charged four men from the Calgary area after recovering over $3M worth of contraband tobacco and cannabis products.

Four people are facing dozens of charges after Mounties uncovered a large illegal tobacco operation in the Calgary area.

The RCMP say an investigation connected a Calgary-based network to a multimillion-dollar contraband tobacco trafficking operation.

Police carried out seven search warrants in Calgary and Airdrie. During the searches, investigators seized more than $3 million worth of illegal tobacco, more than 88 kilograms of illegal cannabis and cannabis products, and nearly 10 kilograms of illegal drugs, including psilocybin, MDMA, DMT and LSD.

Officers also seized nearly $170,000 in cash and more than $300,000 worth of precious metals, luxury items, and a high-value vehicle.

Police laid a total of 36 charges against four Calgary-area residents arrested in early September.

All four are scheduled to appear in a Calgary court on Oct. 19.
