Two Calgary men face dozens of drug, weapons charges after fentanyl bust

Calgary police say a lengthy drug trafficking investigation has led them to arrest two people, and lay dozens of charges.

Two Calgary men are facing a long list of drug and firearms charges after a police investigation in the city’s southwest.

Calgary police say the investigation began in July after receiving reports of suspicious activity in the community of Braeside.

Following a three-month investigation, officers executed a search warrant on Oct. 2 at a residence on Brookpark Drive SW.

During the search, police seized nearly 554 grams of fentanyl with an estimated street value of $40,000, along with a KelTec rifle equipped with a prohibited high-capacity magazine, a handgun with a defaced serial number, ammunition, a drug scale, suspected cutting agents and more than $8,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime.

Police also seized multiple electronic devices from the home.

Mujahid Babekir Babekir, 26, and Shane David McWilliam, 57, have each been charged with numerous offences related to drug trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and a range of alleged firearms offences involving the possession and storage of restricted and prohibited weapons and ammunition.

Both are scheduled to appear in court this month.

Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
